Fight Night: UFC 295
Fight day is upon us! UFC 295 is going down tonight in front of a sold out crowd at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York. MMA fans are in for a treat with this stacked card that includes two UFC championship title fights.
Jon Jones was originally set to headline the event to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic, but with jones having to pull out due to an injury only weeks before, changes had to be quickly made. The UK's own Tom Aspinall will now go against Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight title in the co main event , while Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka will now headline and face off to determine who will be the UFC light heavyweight champion.
Main Event: A closer look
Alex Pereira, one of only three Glory Kickboxing hall of fame inductees, looks to make history this weekend by becoming a two division UFC champion in just his 11th MMA fight. Nicknamed 'Poatan' (Stone hands) Pereira has knockout victories over the likes of Israel Adesanya & Sean Strickland, a former and a current UFC middleweight champion.
His opponent Jiri Prochazka has already tasted the gold. The former UFC light heavyweight champion is on a mission to regain his title after vacating his belt due to injury in 2022. with only three fights in the UFC, Prochazka has already made a statement with a knockout win over Dominick Reyes and a Submission victory over Glover Teixeira.
This clash between two phenomenal strikers is set to be action packed and full of violence from start to finish. We will be surprised if this one goes to the final bell.
The Co-Main
One punch is all it takes when it comes to the heavyweights, Especially with a fighter like Sergei Pavlovich. Coming off six consecutive 1st round knockouts, Pavlovich will be full of confidence and looking to make quick work of his opponent to earn his first UFC championship. Tom Aspinall will have other ideas however. With 13 finishes in 13 wins, the british fighter has become a top contender in the heavyweight division. Standing at 6'5 262lbs, Aspinall has been said to 'move like a middleweight'. He will surely be looking to use his speed and athleticism to his advantage to end the streak of Pavlovich and see himself as the UFC interim heavyweight champion.
